Mentoring Service for Youth Who Have a Parent Incarcerated
LIFE is seeking youth who have a parent (or parental figure) in prison to participate in Leaders in Future Environments (LIFE) project. Our program seeks to strengthen and promote leadership in youth through one-on-one mentoring, group activities and events every six weeks, and annual retreats that focus on the special needs and unique challenges faced by adolescent outh who have a parent in prison.
LIFE Project partcipants must: - Be between the ages 11 and 18 - Currently have an parent or parental figure incarcerated - Live in a Bay Area County: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo - Be willing to partcipate in a year-long one-on-one mentoring project - Attend group events and gatherings with the LIFE Project participants (approximately every 6 weeks) - Attend the Annual Retreat scheduled on August 29-31, 2008 at Camp Arroyo in Livermore.
Many mentor programs serve at-risk youth, but the LIFE Project is one of the few in the San Francisco Bay Area that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of children of prisoners. The LIFE Project is a program of Centerforce, a national leader in support, education and advocacy for individuals, families and communities impacted by incarceration.

We are accepting applications for the Mental Health Young Adult Advisors
Mental Health Young Adult Advisors are looking for young adults who are between 16-24 years old, have been involved with the fostercare system, and/or have been homeless or runaway. It would be ideal that they have leadership and advocacy experience too. Trainings will Wednesdays July 23- August 13th, 5:30-8pm. There is also a short application that each young adult will have to complete out and turn in. It's a way for us to get a sense of their interest and participation in the trainings. We will contact each participant once we receive the completed applications and will provide the address for the trainings at that time. The SF International Poetry Festival has added a youth stage to their slate of events on July 25th. We are looking for a crew of young scribes who represent the Bay Area's cultural and artistic diversity and can respond to the festival theme "Flor y Canto en el Barrio". More details about the festival can be found below, but all Bay Area youth are encouraged to submit work samples to be considered for a limited number of performance slots on the festival stage at the Mission Branch Library.
1) Interested artists must be between the ages of 13 and 19 2) Must live in the Bay Area and be able to perform on July 25th 3) Poems should be no more that 3-5 minutes in length when performed aloud 4) All styles and content are welcomed and appreciated. 5) Strong performance skills are a must!!!

WHAT: Running Start encourages high school girls from across the country to channel their leadership into politics. Participants will meet extraordinary women leaders of diverse backgrounds and learn the importance of having more women in political leadership and running for office.

During the Performance workshop participants are developed and trained by professional artists through sequenced interactive training's designed to prepare them to deliver a dynamic stage performance. This event will feature a wide range of workshops for the beginner as well as master classes for advanced artists topics covered include: vocal projection, stage presence & improvisation. The day will culminate in live performances by pre-selected youth who will receive constructive critique by a panel of seasoned veterans from the local hip-hop scene.
August 9th 7 PM - 10 PM Beat Battle
Phase 3 of G4G will feature aspiring producers testing their skills in a friendly beat battle. Eight Pre-creed contestants will attempt to advance through four rounds of competition that will be judged by the audience. A live beat making workshop and producers panel will round out this event.
September 7th 12 PM - 4 PM Solar Powered Music COncert
Featured in the highly accalimed yerba buena gardens festival, G4G culiminates in the 1st Bay Area solar powered hip-hop music concernt. The event will be headlined by a national artist and will feature performances by local artists select slots will also be reserved for pre-screened G4G participants providing them with the opportunity to perform before a large audience and apply techniques learned in prior events.

ORGANIZATION OF BLACK AIRLINE PILOTS (OBAP) ACE (Aviation Career Education) CAMP for teens ages 14-18 sponsored by DELTA AIRLINES

This summer the Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP) will hold two (2) ACE Camps sponsored by Delta Air Lines. The purpose of each one-week program is to introduce interested youth to the world of aviation by exposing them to the many challenging careers and opportunities which the aviation industry has to offer.
